rum party!

my good friend marcus is from st. vincent. whenever he visits his family down there he usually brings back some rum for his collection at home here in toronto. with all this nice rum at his apartment, he suggested we all come over and enjoy it along with some jamaican cooking and a game of good old rummoli.

the ingredients for these rum parties are simple: friends, rum drinks, jamaican food, rummoli game, dimes for betting, "documentation" and some good music.

the first party was enjoyed by a small group of boys from work. we all showed up early to enjoy some good cooking and then settled down to begin the drinking and game playing. the game is played using dimes and whatever is not won at the end of the night is decided in a one round game of poker. sometimes this pot can be pretty large.

as is customary with drinking parties, some people get carried away and pass out mid way through the evening. this is when the fun starts. make sure you always have a camer on hand to capture the events of the evening. i'll be putting up some photos from our rum parties once we get them scanned.

since the first party, the celebration has grown in popularity. originally intended as a men's evening, many women wanted to join in on the fun when they found out about it. at first, this was frowned upon due to the 'documentation' that was present at the party. but in the end marcus folded because he wanted to impress the ladies. i can't blame him. the last party he had a a blast and there were so many people we had to have two rummoli tables going. picture to come.

keep your eyes peeled here for more party updates and pitures.

why rum?

the reason is easy - marcus had a lot of rum on hand, and he seems to enjoy it... quite a bit. this also gives us an opportunity to try out different kinds of rum from around the world - mount gay, appleton, bacardi, havana club, el dorado, saint james, dillon, sunset etc... the list goes on. i never was a big rum fan until these parties.
